Mercedes Challenges FCA Motor Finance Compensation Plan

Mercedes-Benz's financial arm has become one of three credit institutions challenging the UK Financial Conduct Authority's (FCA) £9.1 billion compensation program for the motor finance sector. The company has initiated legal proceedings, arguing that the regulator's repayment plan is unfair and disproportionate. This challenge has caused widespread repercussions in the automotive finance industry. The FCA's plan envisions collective compensation for motor finance products that were improperly sold to consumers in the past. Alongside Mercedes, two other major credit institutions are opposing the plan on similar grounds. Industry representatives warn that the costs of this compensation program could ultimately be passed on to consumers. In its challenge, Mercedes' financial unit specifically claims that the compensation calculation method is unfair and that historical sales data has been misinterpreted.
