CME Group to Launch Avalanche and Sui Futures Contracts

CME Group continues to expand its regulated cryptocurrency product range. The company plans to launch new futures contracts based on the cryptocurrencies of the Avalanche (AVAX) and Sui (SUI) blockchains. These new products are expected to begin trading on July 29, 2024, subject to receiving the necessary regulatory approvals. The futures contracts will be cash-settled rather than physically delivered. This means the contracts will be closed with cash at expiration instead of involving the transfer of actual crypto assets. CME Group employs this structure for its existing Bitcoin and Ethereum futures products as well. Giovanni Vicioso, Global Head of Crypto Products at CME, stated that this move was driven by client demand. Vicioso noted that the rapidly growing ecosystems of Avalanche and Sui are seen as a natural next step for derivatives markets. This launch will enable institutional investors to gain exposure to a broader range of crypto assets through a regulated exchange. Following Bitcoin and Ethereum, CME Group will expand its crypto futures portfolio to four products with these two new assets. The company continues its strategy of providing institutional-grade risk management tools for cryptocurrency market volatility.
