FirstRand Appoints BofA and RMB as Advisors for Aldermore Sale

South African banking group FirstRand Ltd. has appointed Bank of America Corp. (BofA) and its own investment banking arm, Rand Merchant Bank (RMB), as advisors to sell its UK-based subsidiary Aldermore Group and exit the European market. According to a spokesperson, this move is part of FirstRand's strategic restructuring plan. Aldermore Group, a British commercial bank, was acquired by FirstRand in 2015. The sale process reflects the group's goal to reduce its European presence and focus on its core South African market. FirstRand aims to streamline its international operations through this transaction. The sale process, advised by Bank of America and RMB, is expected to attract interest from potential buyers. While the valuation of Aldermore and the terms of the sale have not yet been finalized, such a transaction could strengthen FirstRand's balance sheet and improve its capital structure.
