Analog Devices Acquires Empower Semiconductor for $1.5 Billion

Analog Devices (ADI) has signed an agreement to acquire AI power management chip startup Empower Semiconductor for $1.5 billion in cash. The move is seen as part of Analog Devices' strategy to meet demand for energy efficiency solutions in AI data centers and edge devices. Empower Semiconductor develops innovative semiconductor technologies that optimize power distribution and reduce energy loss for high-performance processors. The company's solutions are particularly critical in server and data center applications with heavy AI workloads. Analog Devices CEO Vincent Roche stated that the acquisition will strengthen the company's 'intelligent power management' portfolio and enable customers to achieve higher performance with lower power consumption. Empower's technology is expected to create synergies with Analog Devices' existing product range. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of fiscal 2025.
