Gold Sales Drive Decline in Central Bank Reserves

The total reserves of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) decreased by $2.957 billion in the week of May 15 compared to the previous week, falling to $168.572 billion. The decline was primarily driven by a reduction in gold reserves. According to central bank data, gross foreign exchange reserves fell by $1.2 billion during the same period, while gold reserves dropped by $1.757 billion. Thus, the majority of the decline in total reserves stemmed from the gold component. Fluctuations in gold prices and developments in global markets continue to affect central banks' gold reserves.
