Drax Acquires Bluefield Solar for $755 Million

UK-based energy company Drax Group has announced the acquisition of Bluefield Solar Income Fund in a deal valued at $755 million, aimed at expanding its renewable energy portfolio. According to Reuters, the acquisition will significantly increase Drax's solar energy assets. The deal is seen as a strategic move aligned with Drax's decarbonization goals. Bluefield Solar holds a substantial solar portfolio in the UK, and through this acquisition, Drax plans to boost its renewable energy capacity by approximately 1 gigawatt. Drax's CEO stated that the deal will strengthen the company's leading position in clean energy production. The acquisition is expected to close in the first quarter of 2024, pending regulatory approvals. Drax has previously invested in renewable sources such as biomass and hydropower. This new agreement will enhance the company's presence in solar energy, contributing to its energy transition strategy. Bluefield Solar shareholders will receive cash consideration under the deal.
