Turk Ilac CEO's Share Sale Before Concordatum Draws Attention

The increasing number of concordatum announcements on Borsa Istanbul has been unsettling investors. Turk Ilac, which went public in 2021, filed for concordatum after failing to pay its bond debts. The process came to light due to a share sale that occurred 22 days before the concordatum announcement. Prior to the concordatum filing, the company's CEO, Yunus Emre Battal, who is also the son of the company's owner, sold all of his shares. Battal divested his 11.59% stake in the company for approximately 444 million Turkish lira, reducing his partnership to zero. Following this transaction, the majority shareholder's stake fell to 26%. Experts indicate that this sale by the CEO could be evaluated under Article 106 of the Capital Markets Law, which regulates insider trading and prohibits obtaining unfair gains using internal company information. It is stated that such transactions should be investigated. Turk Ilac's concordatum process began as the company's financial condition deteriorated and it became unable to pay its debts.
