SpaceX Denied Early Entry into S&P Index

SpaceX's request for early inclusion in the S&P 500, one of the leading U.S. stock market indices, has been rejected by S&P Dow Jones Indices. The company was turned down on the grounds that it does not yet meet the necessary criteria for index entry under current rules. S&P officials emphasized that the index rules have not changed and that SpaceX cannot be included under current regulations because it is not a publicly traded company. SpaceX continues to operate as a private company, which prevents it from meeting the index's liquidity and public float requirements. SpaceX's request for early index entry had come to the fore following the company's recent successful space missions and increasing valuation. However, S&P insisted on applying the existing rules to maintain the integrity of the index. This decision once again demonstrates that it is impossible for SpaceX to be included in the index without going public.
