Revolution in Cancer Prevention: First mRNA Vaccine Developed
British scientists have developed a groundbreaking mRNA vaccine for cancer treatment. The study, conducted in collaboration between Oxford University and pharmaceutical company Moderna, aims to prevent bowel and ovarian cancer in individuals with a high genetic risk of cancer. The mRNA technology, proven successful in Covid-19 vaccines, will be used for cancer prevention for the first time, with initial patient applications planned to begin this summer.
The vaccine primarily aims to protect individuals with a hereditary condition called Lynch syndrome. This genetic condition, affecting one in every 300 people in the UK, results from damage to DNA repair genes. Individuals with the syndrome have an 80% increased risk of bowel cancer, along with a high likelihood of developing ovarian, uterine, stomach, and pancreatic cancers. Only 5% of an estimated 175,000 carriers are aware of their condition.
Produced using mRNA technology, the vaccine delivers genetic instructions to cells to generate an immune response, rather than administering a weakened virus. Experts note that the vaccine works like an 'instruction manual,' training the immune system. This enables the defense mechanism to detect and eliminate cell mutations triggered by Lynch syndrome before they turn into cancer. Booster doses may be required at regular intervals to maintain the vaccine's effectiveness.
In the initial phase starting this summer, the optimal dosage will be determined, and the vaccine's safety will be tested on patients. The second phase of the study is expected to be expanded in 2027. Scientists emphasize that the vaccine could not only protect Lynch syndrome patients but also prevent a second cancer in individuals who have previously survived cancer. The research team states that data from this trial will pave the way for developing vaccines against other cancer types without a genetic link in the future.

📊 MRNA — Piyasa Yorumu
▲ up · 60%The news serves as a major catalyst for MRNA's core technology. The development of the first mRNA vaccine for cancer prevention strengthens the company's long-term growth potential. However, technical indicators remain weak: the price is below the 20- and 50-day moving averages, the RSI is neutral at 46.6, and the MACD is negative below the signal line. In the short term, this positive news may partially offset selling pressure, but for a sustained rally, the price needs to break above the 48.8 resistance level.
