Roblox Moves to Implement Parental Controls for Under-15s in Turkey

Following Turkey's regulation banning social media for children under 15, online gaming platform Roblox, which is currently subject to access restrictions, has taken steps to introduce a parental control panel. The platform plans to activate this system to block access for children under 15. Roblox had previously established an Istanbul-based company to legalize its operations in Turkey. If it meets the criteria for direct communication with local authorities and compliance with legal demands, the platform is expected to restore access for its users in Turkey. Roblox was blocked by a court order last year due to child abuse content. With this move, it could become the first international gaming platform to fulfill legal obligations in Turkey. Discussions with other platforms under the legal framework are ongoing, and positive signals for regulatory compliance are being received. According to the law that took effect in May, major foreign gaming platforms with daily access exceeding 100,000 from Turkey must respond to requests from BTK and judicial authorities, appoint a representative in Turkey, and provide parental controls.
