SpaceX Shares Begin Trading on Nasdaq, Elon Musk Becomes World's First Trillionaire

Shares of Elon Musk's space and aerospace company SpaceX began trading on the Nasdaq stock exchange under the ticker 'SPCX'. The shares opened at $150, pushing the company's market capitalization above $2 trillion. This valuation surpasses the $1.5 trillion market cap of Musk's other company, Tesla, and makes SpaceX the seventh most valuable publicly traded company in the world. SpaceX raised approximately $75 billion through its initial public offering (IPO) by selling 555.6 million Class A shares at $135 per share. This size surpasses Saudi Aramco's $29.4 billion IPO in 2019, making it the largest IPO in history. Investor demand was high, with the offering reportedly oversubscribed by about four times. Following the IPO, Musk's total wealth, including his Tesla shares and other assets, exceeded $1 trillion. According to documents filed with the SEC, Musk will hold approximately 82.4% of the voting rights after the IPO, giving him decisive influence over major decisions requiring shareholder approval. SpaceX plans to use the proceeds from the IPO for growth initiatives such as space transportation, satellite internet services, artificial intelligence infrastructure, and data center investments. The company expanded its operations earlier this year by merging with AI venture xAI.
