Novartis' SMA Gene Therapy Receives EU Approval

This approval strengthens the company's portfolio in rare diseases while offering a new treatment option for SMA patients. The approval, granted by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), allows the use of Novartis' gene therapy product for certain types of SMA. The treatment aims to halt disease progression and improve motor functions. Following this approval, Novartis is preparing for the commercial launch of the gene therapy product in the European market. The company had previously received similar approvals in the US and some other countries. SMA is known as a genetic disease that leads to muscle weakness and loss of mobility.
