AstraZeneca Strikes $1.5 Billion Cancer Drug Deal

Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has reached an agreement with Chinese biotech firm Dizal to acquire the global rights to Zegfrovy, a drug used in the treatment of lung cancer. Under the deal, AstraZeneca will make an upfront payment of $600 million to Dizal. The total value of the agreement could reach up to $1.5 billion, contingent upon the successful completion of clinical trials, positive regulatory outcomes, and achievement of specified sales targets. These payments will be made gradually based on milestone achievements. Zegfrovy stands out as a promising treatment option, particularly for lung cancer patients with specific genetic mutations. By adding this drug to its portfolio, AstraZeneca aims to strengthen its presence in the oncology field. Dizal plans to channel the resources obtained from the deal into its R&D activities and other projects.
