France Integrates Low-Cost Anti-Drone Rockets into Rafale Jets

The French Defense Ministry (DGA) and Thales have launched a new integration program to protect fighter jets against low-cost unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Under the program named LADAC (Fighter Aircraft Anti-Drone Combat), Thales Aculeus LG-type laser-guided 68 mm rockets have been adapted for Rafale fighter jets. These rockets are designed to neutralize kamikaze UAVs worth a few thousand euros. Offering a much lower operational cost compared to traditional air defense systems, this solution enables efficient use of ammunition inventory. The program is considered a strategic step against asymmetric threats. In air defense doctrines managed with billion-euro budgets, the threat posed by low-cost UAVs necessitates such innovative solutions. Thales' laser-guided rocket technology provides fighter jets with flexible and economical defense capabilities, while expected to save euros in France's defense spending.
