Electric vehicle prices are no longer determined solely by exchange rates and costs; small changes in the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) base are also decisive. The SCT base limit of 1,650,000 Turkish lira, which applies a 25% SCT rate to electric cars with power up to 160 kW, constitutes a critical threshold for 12 models. These models are currently at the edge of the base limit, making price movements highly significant. If the base limit is exceeded, the SCT rate for these vehicles could shift to a higher bracket. This could lead to substantial price increases for consumers. For instance, if a price increase of just 1 lira causes the base limit to be exceeded, the vehicle price could rise by at least 594,000 lira. This poses a significant risk for both manufacturers and consumers. The 12 models in question are currently priced just below the base limit. Therefore, factors such as exchange rate fluctuations or cost increases could directly impact their prices. The next price hike could push these vehicles into a higher SCT bracket, significantly raising their prices.
