Research Confirms Cost Advantage of Electric Vehicles on Intercity Roads

A comprehensive study conducted in Turkey has revealed that electric vehicles offer a significant cost advantage over gasoline vehicles on intercity journeys. The study analyzed 9,641 charging stations across the country and 3 million intercity trips, evaluating energy costs while also accounting for factors such as station capacity and waiting times. According to the findings, electric vehicles are 27% more economical in terms of energy cost per kilometer compared to gasoline vehicles. This rate, coupled with the expansion of charging infrastructure and improvements in energy efficiency, enhances the appeal of electric vehicles for long-distance use. The analysis also incorporated charging station occupancy rates and average waiting times into cost calculations. This allowed for a more realistic comparison by considering not only energy consumption but also indirect costs such as time loss. Experts note that these findings support the advantage of electric vehicles in total cost of ownership, but also emphasize that increasing the capacity of charging infrastructure and the proliferation of fast-charging options could further strengthen this advantage.
