Electric Vehicle Charging Consumption Hits Record in Turkey

With the proliferation of electric vehicles and the expansion of charging infrastructure in Turkey, electricity consumption for charging purposes increased by approximately 97% year-on-year in July, reaching 89,947 megawatt-hours. This figure represents the highest monthly consumption of all time. According to sector data, this increase parallels the rapid rise in the number of electric vehicle owners and the spread of charging stations. Fast-charging units installed especially in major cities and on main routes were instrumental in this surge in consumption. Experts note that if this trend continues, the share of electric vehicles in energy demand will increase, and grid investments will gain importance. Additionally, the growth in charging infrastructure is expected to create new opportunities for electricity distribution companies. This record consumption in July is seen as an indication that the transition to electric mobility is accelerating.
