Cyberattack on Mirae Asset Securities: Data of 39,000 People Stolen

Mirae Asset Securities, one of South Korea's leading investment banking and financial brokerage firms, announced that it was subjected to a cyberattack on its mobile web phone identity verification login services and internal systems. The company reported that unauthorized access was detected as a result of attacks that occurred on Wednesday and Thursday. It was stated that within the scope of the leak, account numbers of approximately 3,800 customers and personal information of more than 35,000 current and former employees and contract personnel were compromised. The stolen data reportedly included names, employee identification numbers, email addresses, mobile phone numbers, and passwords. The incident came to light when suspicious activities from external IP addresses were detected. The company announced that it immediately blocked the affected access routes and activated its emergency response system. The breach was reported to the South Korean Financial Services Commission (FSC), the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS), and the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC).
