Gold and Silver to Trade as Digital Assets on Borsa Istanbul

The Ministry of Treasury and Finance has introduced a new regulation allowing unprocessed precious metals of specified purity and weight to be digitized and traded on Borsa Istanbul. Under this regulation, precious metals can be converted into digital precious metals through a system based on distributed ledger technology. These digital assets will not be classified as capital market instruments or crypto assets but will hold the status of intangible assets. The conversion process will be carried out by central clearing institutions, and the Ministry's approval will be required for these digital precious metals to be traded on Borsa Istanbul. The system is designed to enable transfers among Borsa members. Additionally, new obligations have been imposed on refineries under the Precious Metals Tracking System (KMTS). Legal entities resident in Turkey that have applied to the Ministry and are under evaluation will be required to produce within the scope of KMTS.
